You can even create your very own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.my-iname.com\/index.php\">iName.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/\">mySpace<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/my.aol.com\/\">myAOL<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/my.msn.com\/\">myMSN<\/a>. myWebspace. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myway.com\/\">myWay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What is going on? We give an extra vowel (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ivillage.com\">iVillage<\/a>), then we take away another &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/wis.dm\/\">wis.dm<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/\">flickr<\/a>.  or, even combine both the give and the take &#8211;&gt; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.istalkr.com\/\">iStalkr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>and what&#8217;s with the extra &#8216;o&#8217;? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoooka.com\">hoooka<\/a>? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zooomr.com\">zooomr<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>my, oh, my. When will we learn to share? This self-centered approach to domain-naming is quite puzzling. I can only surmise that it is a symptom of our increasing self-centeredness. My This. My That. I&#8217;m not sharing. I&#8217;ts miiiiine! I&#8217;ts almost like the web is increasingly being branded by overgrown children who forgot how to share.<\/p>\n<p>Our window to the world is willingly shrinking to the size of an iPod screen as we disengage from the real world more often and stay indoors to &#8216;surf&#8217;.  We  seem to want to make it a personal experience, taking back what we gave away, by adding the word &#8216;my&#8217; as a magic bullet to our increasing disconnect. I heard it best said the other day &#8220;You are your own best search engine: get out of the house and go out into the world and explore&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Amusingly, you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lightsphere.com\/dev\/web20.html\">generate your own web 2.o company name<\/a>. And here, an amusing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firewheeldesign.com\/sparkplug\/2005\/December\/four_concentric_circles_of_a_web_20_name.php\">essay deconstructing web 2.0 names<\/a>.
